i am Lily Levine, presently residing in canada, i moved here since 2001, i like it here, every year me and my family always visit philippines, by the way i am from Talakag, Bukidnon,,, this is my homeland, while we are planning to have a holiday 1 big issue is to go to camiguin for a couple of days, a bring almost the whole talakag to there just to relax and enjoy with their hot spring, sto, nino cold spring and just recently we discover the soda cold spring, my husband which is a canadian love to stay there,,, we stay at SABAKAHAN, @ yumbing, we like it there because they have kitchen where we can cook and it is very close to the seashore. they are nice and very understanding, everytime we will go there their rest house is full,, especially children, i loved to bring my nieces and nephews.. i miss CAMIGUIN so much and i want to go back there this year with my family,,, for all the people
in camiguin, you guys are so lucky to have a very nice place,,, that's a GOD'S given that no man can even measure it.
see you this year again, and best regards to the owner of the SABAKAHAN, beach resort in Yumbing, please send my best regards to them.

    PS.
    just one simple comments,
    to Ardent Hot Spring management
i hope that they will reduce their charges to the guest,, Hot Spring is natural, and God gave that to us to enjoy but i guess you are over charging, like us, a bunch of people is coming and we paid a lot of money everytime we go there.. you should give discount and there should be an age limit..
I hope this will come to your attention.
thank you for your attention to this.
    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

  • Hi! Im Dada, daughter of Paciencia Reyes- Quilatan"NENEN" is her nickname.
When I was young I use to have my vacation there every summer with my parents and other relatives. We usually stay at our ancestral house in Mambajao,my Tita Dayday Juni- Reyes and the brother of my mom Tito Pingoy Reyes they are the only one's who are staying there.
I did have wonderful memories of that place...even if I would visit Camiguin every summer Im still in awe of its virgin beauty.
My last visit was when m mom was buried there for that is her request 7years ago with my own family.

Hopefully ,in the future we can all visit and remenisce once again the many beautiful memories that that place has deposited in me.

Maybe we are somehow related? not familiar kasi with real names only the nicknames lang...

    till next time

    DADA
  • OMG!!!! Yes, we are!!! I remember Tito Pinggoy, his nickname is the same my Dad...Pinggoy Reyes - Jose Jacop Reyes, we lived in the big house not too far from Tito's Pings on the same street!! Now, my Mom is there and My dad dies recently and Mom is living in the house that my Dad built for her... and tell me the name of your Mom...I've not seen Tita Dayday for a while, now, if she is still living in Mambajao, am sure she heard of Dad's passing, he was buried in the family cementary....Yes I know, we all had nicknames... and still do!! :o)
  • By accident, I read your posting and I wonder where are you now? The last time I saw you was at your wedding in Simi Valley.

    Your cousin,

    Dadan
  • kath,

first of all, please accept my hearfelt condolence for the loss of Nong Pinggoy. we lost a great man. we had a great time discussing camiguin issues after tennis games - of course, over some round of beer. that was in 1992-1998 when i started the camiguin telephone project. i'll be coming home this summer for our family reunion. surely i will miss your dad.

it's nice to see you and dada meet over the web. me, too, have memories with Nang Nenen, at felix huertas st., during my college days. i'm a frequent visitor, not only during September fiesta novenas, but to visit my cousins - jojo & ex bollozos. of course, charito barlaan stayed there, too.

Kath, this might come as a surprise for you. the last time i see you was at the classroom of Mam Titang Mora. if you still have a class picture of Grade 1 or 2, taken at the facade of Fatime College of Camiguin auditorium, i can tell you where i am. yes, we're classmates!

you have a great blog, Kath. keep it up.

    best regards,
    nandy

  • I was born and grew up on the same island. I'm a constant partcipant of Panaad, a yearly Holy Week event that challenges participants to walk around Camiguin.

I just had a time off from work and had spent my weekend there. I miss the old Camiguin where you can count by hand the number of vehicles and the silence. What I miss most is the warm welcome by locals, like me!

A new site was just opened, it's in Sagay, Camiguin. (Where I grew up.) It's the Binangawan Falls. I haven't been there but they say that the falls creates a rainbow hence the name "bangaw" = rainbow. And there are also wild strawberries growing near the falls.

Another site is the Ilihan hill, a dormant volcano visible in Guinsiliban and Sagay. I've been there and it has the best sunrise Camiguin could offer. Heavenly! And it has pine trees, fog and clouds below, a little unscathed Baguio.

    Camiguin is a real treasure.
  • Hi Dada,

Nice to know we have another cousin, we never met.
I am a daughter of a first cousin of your mom, tita Nenen. My fathers name is the late Carding Reyes.
I only know the son of Tita Nenen only. I am close to Tito Pinggoy and Tita Dayday.
Do you have contact with Dadan and Erlinda, from LA, also Filipino friends members? He, Dadan is your first cousin.

    Regards

  • There is now a daily ferry to Jagna Bohol, takes 4-5 hrs. From there, you can take a bus to Tagbilaran, perhaps stay in Panglao white beach and continue the trip to Cebu. THere are several boats, including a fast craft Tagbilaran-Cebu.

    Schedule: (subject to change)
Departure Camiguin: daily at 8:00 am, arriving Jagna Bohol at 12:00
Departure Jagna Bohol: daily 1pm, arriving Camiguin at 5:00pm
  • camiguin seems really beautiful. it has everything, from volcanoes to forests to beaches. it is an ideal place for a relaxing vacation for the whole family.
  • Good job.. nice pictures! Here is a poem about the island:

    The Island of Paradise

A paradise where a few would know
A place to pamper and relax self
    To appreciate ecstasy on earth
A sight to immerse wildest dreams
A town with simple memories of days
Where life is easy and worry-free
Enjoy scenic views in its splendor
    Where sunburst makes you alive.
Saluting dawn to a rooster's crow
To awake town to sunset's breathtaking sight
With moon glow in the ocean blue
Replica of glitter specks of diamonds
    Where mist of hugging clouds
Cuddling the peak of highest tip
To the austere and majesti volcano site.

Where time is leisure and getting old
    Unhurried and unnoticed
    With gentle wind embracing
    Cocoanut trees that grow wildly
    Swaying and beckoning
Like an open arms of a maiden
Anticipating for her lover to appear
Ebb tides whisper a familiar tune
    To revive a lonely heart
To rekindle or start, to discovery or recovery
A new or one love affair
Where white sand in blue lagoon
    Come together
Inviting to a warm, clear water
Hidden hot spring like emerald gem
    Alluring one to submerge gently
To calm an aching body that feels like million fingers
    Massaging tenderly
    Where waterfalls make rainbow
    Like cascading bride's veil
Thanks to the beauty of Creation.
